Chinese, Copenhagen based Fashion Designer, Mark Tan
The Copenhagen based designer, Mark Kenly Domino Tan, is currently one of the new Scandinavian design talents making a mark internationally. His Chinese and Danish heritage is a recurring reference point in his oriental but darkly Nordic collections, worn by local actresses and royalty.
Please tell us about the background reference of the collection
The background reference for the collection is partially from my heritage - I have a Chinese father and a Danish mother, so this season I took inspiration in the other part of my heritage, referencing the kimono silhouettes and closings, as well as the mandarin collars. Also the universe of Ingmar Bergman, which is dark and Nordic, inspired me for the color spectrum and the materials.
Can you tell us about the decision of being based in Copenhagen
Because I am Danish, and it is always great to have some advantages in the market your are operating in.
Who or what were your main influences when growing up
Nobody really, except for Mr. Christian Dior, even though he was already dead at the time of me growing up.
How and in what ways have you expanded your brand since you launched
We’ve expanded our brand from selling only in Denmark to selling internationally in different forums and online stores, which gives us a better opportunity for reaching the right clientele.
